Some Thoughts on Friendship

Updated: May 10

"A friend loves at all times." (Proverbs 17:17)

David was a king in the Bible, who, unlike his brothers, was not very strong, handsome or proud. The king before him (Saul) was very jealous of David, and wanted to kill him, unlike his son, Jonathan. But here's the catch: Jonathan and David were BEST FRIENDS!! Imagine your dad trying to kill your best friend!

When you have a friend, you should be loyal to them, and always be there for them, even when you have better things to do. A good friend doesn't laugh at you when you fall down, but helps you up. Are you like that to your friends?

The word friend comes from the old English word "freond" which means beloved or lover, and you should definitely be a loving friend. Even if you have a couple of close friends, or many, they should still love you and stand up for you, and you should do that for your friends too.

Making Friends

Whenever I go to clubs or public events, I always found (and still kind of do) it hard to make new friends. But recently, I made three amazing new friends, and I felt more comfortable and excited to go to athletics! (Obviously to learn as well.) But from that experience, I realised something: Don't wait for others to talk, you go and talk to them. From a simple question, "What's your favourite pizza topping? What's your favourite colour? Do you like this?" can turn into a deep friendship.

So don't be scared to ask someone a question.

On the twenty-ninth of July, 2026, me and my family may be moving to the United States of America for three years, (Alabama, Birmingham). I have a few, but VERY close friends, which I will miss EXTREMELY!!! But I know that this is a chance for me to meet new people and make new friends—and of course stay in touch with my old ones.

So this month, I challenge you to do three things:

  1. Make a new friend!

  2. Be kind or considerate to a friend!

  3. Read 1 and 2 Samuel about David and Jonathan!

I hope this short blog post inspires you!!!
